There are hundreds of different gins available these days, and choosing one isn’t always straightforward.
London Dry, Mediterranean, fruity, citrus-led, botanical… It’s quite a lot to consider when all you really want is a lovely gin and tonic.
And if you’re buying a bottle as a present, it’s even harder.
So, here’s a little help from us.
At Wild Fox Distillery, we make our gin on our family farm in Lancashire. We’ve developed a range of different recipes over the years, and one thing we’ve learnt is that everybody has their own idea of the perfect gin.
The trick is finding yours.
Let’s start with the classic.
Despite its name, London Dry Gin doesn’t have to be made in London. It’s a recognised style of gin, known for its traditional production method and juniper-led character.
If somebody enjoys a classic gin and tonic, London Dry is generally a good place to start.
Our recommendation: Ivy’s Signature London Dry Gin
This is where everything began for Wild Fox.
It’s our traditional London Dry, distilled here on the farm using carefully selected botanicals.
It’s beautifully balanced and makes a proper gin and tonic with Indian tonic water, plenty of ice and a simple garnish.
Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.
Mediterranean-style gins often feature aromatic herbs, citrus and botanicals inspired by warmer climates.
They’re a lovely choice for somebody who enjoys a fragrant, refreshing gin.
Our recommendation: Mane Event Mediterranean Gin
Our award-winning Mane Event is inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean but made right here in Lancashire.
At 42% ABV, it’s full of character and a lovely alternative to a traditional London Dry.
It’s also a particularly good choice if you’re buying for somebody who already enjoys gin but fancies something a little different.
Not everyone wants a traditional dry gin.
Fruity gins bring different flavours to the glass and can be a lovely introduction for somebody exploring the world of gin.
But here’s something worth knowing.
Fruity doesn’t necessarily mean sugary.
A gin can have beautiful fruit flavours without needing lots of added sweetness.
Our recommendation: Blushing Vixen Rhubarb & Elderflower Gin
Our Blushing Vixen combines rhubarb and elderflower for a beautifully fragrant, fruit-led gin.
It’s a lovely choice for somebody who enjoys a softer, fruitier flavour without wanting an overly sweet drink.
If you’re buying for somebody who already has a well-stocked gin shelf, you might want something that stands out.
Our recommendation: Twelve Bore Orange Zest & Ginger Gin
At 45% ABV, Twelve Bore is our orange zest and ginger gin.
It’s a bold, beautifully aromatic spirit with warming ginger and bright citrus character.
It’s also a favourite for anyone who appreciates a gin with a little more personality.
A more expensive gin isn’t automatically a better gin.
What matters is the quality of the ingredients, the balance of the recipe and how carefully it’s made.
At Wild Fox, we carry out our production here at the distillery, from distilling through to bottling and labelling.
We’re a small family business, not a huge drinks company, and we’re rather proud of that.
When you buy one of our bottles, you’re buying a spirit made by people who genuinely care about what’s inside it.
And we think that’s worth knowing.
If you’re still not sure which gin to choose, we’d suggest starting with what the recipient normally drinks.
If they love a traditional G&T, choose a London Dry.
If they enjoy fragrant, herbal flavours, try a Mediterranean-style gin.
If they prefer something fruitier, rhubarb and elderflower could be perfect.
And if they enjoy bold citrus and warming spice, orange and ginger might be just the thing.
We also offer personalised gin bottles if you’d like to make the present a little more special.
Better still, we’re happy to gift wrap your bottle, include a personal message and send it directly to the recipient.
All our gins are distilled and bottled on our family farm in Lancashire.
Whether you’re buying a present, trying something new or simply replacing the empty bottle on your gin shelf, we’d love you to give Wild Fox a try.
