Elderflower Season Has Arrived at Wild Fox Distillery

There’s a short window every year when the Lancashire hedgerows burst into life with elderflower, and for us it means one thing – it’s time to start making Blushing Vixen.

Our Rhubarb & Elderflower Gin has become one of our most popular gins, but what many people don’t realise is just how much work goes into every batch.

Whilst most flavoured gins are made using extracts, flavourings or concentrates, we take a much slower approach.

Every batch starts with fresh rhubarb, which is steeped alongside our carefully selected blend of botanicals for 48 hours before distillation begins. This allows the natural flavours to gently infuse, creating the fruity foundation that Blushing Vixen is known for.

But the real magic happens on distillation day.

During elderflower season, we’re out picking fresh elderflowers from our farm and the surrounding Lancashire countryside just before the still starts running. In most cases, those flowers are picked and in the still within 10 to 20 minutes.

That means the delicate floral aromas are captured at their absolute best.

It’s a lot more work than opening a bottle of flavouring, but we think it’s worth it.

In a world where so much of what we eat and drink has become ultra-processed, we believe there’s something special about working with real ingredients. Fresh rhubarb. Fresh elderflower. Real botanicals. No shortcuts.

Every batch of Blushing Vixen is distilled in our copper still, Kin,  here at Wild Fox Distillery in Lancashire, in small batches where quality always comes before volume.

The result is a beautifully balanced rhubarb and elderflower gin with fresh floral notes, gentle sweetness and a smooth finish that works perfectly with a light tonic, plenty of ice and a slice of fresh strawberry.

The elderflower season only lasts a few weeks each year, so whilst we’re busy picking, steeping and distilling, we’ll be making the most of every flower we can gather.
